Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT)
It is a mechanical pulse pressure wave with sound, light and mechanical characteristics. When passing through human tissues, its energy is not easily absorbed by superficial tissues, but can reach deep tissues, resulting in cavitation effect, osteogenic effect, analgesic effect and metabolic activation effect.
Cavitation effect: when the shock wave is conducted in human tissues, some tiny bubbles will produce micro jet, accompanied by rapid expansion of bubbles, which is beneficial to dredge micro blood vessels, improve local blood circulation and loosen soft tissue adhesion
Osteogenic effect: shock wave can produce different tensile stress and compressive stress on cells, thus promoting soft tissue release, cracking and hardening bone, increasing cell oxygen uptake, promoting tissue blood vessel growth, and playing an osteogenic role.
Metabolic activation: By acting on diseased tissues, bringing new growth factors and inducing stem cells to transform into normal tissue structure, improving the metabolism of the treated area and accelerating recovery.
Analgesic effect: high-intensity shock wave on nerve endings produce super stimulation, so that nerve sensitivity is reduced, causing changes in free radicals around cells and the release of pain-inhibiting substances, thereby relieving pain.
Adaptation symptoms
Calcific tendinitis, external humeral epicondylitis (tennis), internal humeral epicondylitis (golf elbow), heel pain, bone nonunion, delayed fracture healing and pseudarthrosis, femoral head ischemia, myofascitis, bursitis, neck, shoulder, waist and leg pain.
