International Women’s Day, also known as the International Working Women’s Day and officially as the “United Nations Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace,” is a holiday established to celebrate women’s significant contributions across all fields. Its origins can be traced back to the early 20th century in the United States. At that time, female workers faced harsh working conditions and low wages; in 1908, 15,000 women marched through New York City, demanding shorter working hours, higher pay, and the right to vote, in order to secure equal rights. In 1910, the International Conference of Women designated March 8 as International Working Women’s Day. Since then, women around the world have continued to fight for their rights, and this day has come to embody the profound spirit of women’s pursuit of equality, freedom, and respect.
